“In the Middle Ages
also ʿānāt , and in Turkish official usage ʿana —is a town of modern ʿIrāḳ
situated on the Euphrates right bank (41° 58’ E, 34° 28’ N.), some 245
kilometers southeast of Dayr al-Zūr and 148 north-west of Hīt.” 7
