In the Middle Ages also ʿānāt , and in Turkish official usage ʿana —is a town of modern ʿIrāḳ situated on the Euphrates right bank (41° 58’ E, 34° 28’ N.), some 245 kilometers southeast of Dayr al-Zūr and 148 north-west of Hīt.7

بلد غربي الفرات جنوبي شرقي دير الزور من بلاد العراق.2
ثم يمتد الفرات على ديار العرب حتى ينتهي الى الرقة وقرقيسيا والرحبة والدالية وعانة والحديثة وهيت والانبارالى الكوفة6
ولم أر في الدنيا مثلها، غير مسيرة أربعة أيام من الأنبار الى عانة.5
