The capital of the district and a seaport of importance. It was situated on the pilgrim road from Ṣanʿāʾ, between al-Had̲j̲ar (= Ḏj̲āzān) and Bayḍ, and is quoted already in the year 11/632 as belonging to the insurgent al-Aswad [q.v.].2
