[A] town of northwestern Arabia, now the centre of an imāra or province of Saudi Arabia (lat. 28° 22′ N., long. 36° 32′ E., altitude 6,500 m/2,250 feet), some 233 km/145 south-south-east of Maʿān and separated from the Red Sea and Gulf of ʿAkaba by the Ḥismā mountains.2

ثم إلى تبوك وهو الموضع الذي غزاه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. وفيها عين تبضّ بشيء من الماء. فلما نزلها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وتوضأ منها، جادت بالماء المعين.4
ثم سافرنا من المدينة الشريفة الى العلا وتبوك#6
ومن عادة حجاج الشام إذا وصلوا منزل تبوك، أخذوا أسلحتهم، وجرّدوا سيوفهم، وحملوا على المنزل وضربوا النخيل بسيوفهم، ويقولون: هكذا دخلها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. وينزل الركب العظيم على هذه العين فيروي منها جميعهم، ويقيمون أربعة أيام للراحة وإرواء الجمال واستعداد الماء للبرية المخوفة التي بين العلا وتبوك.5
