[A] town of ʿIrāḳ on the right bank of the Tigris to the north of Sāmarrāʾ 100 miles from Bag̲h̲dād divertly, and 143 by river, and at the foot of the range of the D̲j̲abal Ḥamrīn (lat. 34° 36′ N., long. 43° 41′ E., altitude 110 m/375 feet).12

بلدة بين بغداد والموصل غربي دجلة كانت في العصور الذاهبة اشتهرت بكرسي مفارنة المشرق من سنة 628 م حتى منسلخ المئة الثانية عشرة4
ثم سرنا منها مرحلة ووصلنا إلى مدينة تكريت، وهي مدينة كبيرة فسيحة الأرجاء مليحة الأسواق كثيرة الجوامع وأهلها موصوفون بحسن الأخلاق والدجلة من الجهة الشمالية منها ولها قلعة حصينة على شطّ الدجلة والمدينة عتيقة البناء عليها سور يطيف بها14
حسب ما ذكرته من حال الموصل وسائر ديار ربيعة وارتفاعها نحو خمسين الف دينار وليس في العراق لها نظير الا ما كان في دجلة بتكريت وعكبراء والبردان وبغداد نفسها [...]9
ولقد اشتريت من تاجر عراقي من أهل تكريت يعرف بمحمد الدوري بمدينة غزنة15
an ancient city west of the Tigris, between Baghdad and Mosul. In the golden age of the Syrians, it was the seat of the Maphryonos of the East from 628 until the end of the twelfth century.5
Tagrit is a modern city located on the west bank of the Tigris, almost mid-way between Mosul and Baghdad.1
