          [T]he sacred well located at the perimeter of the sacred complex of Mecca. It is situated to the east of the Kaʿba [ q.v.] alongside the wall where the "Black Stone", al-ḥad̲j̲ar al-aswad , is enshrined, a little further from the centre than the maḳām Ibrāhīm [ q.v.], the "station of Abraham". The well is currently a subterranean arrangement, also opening towards the east.
